Provided below is my draft for Assignment 1. It is very far from finished as I want to add a lot more detail for my company and step 4, but I just wanted to get this posted for feedback to help me improve and give me ideas on what more to write.

Step 1 –
For step 1 I set up my personal profile on Moodle, which
required me to give some information on myself, what I was studying this term
and add a photo. I set up a blog which was confronting for me, however made me
try new things which was exciting. The link to my blog was added into my
personal profile on Moodle and in the course blog link forum.
I posted me first blog which provided more information about
myself which was more descriptive than the one in Moodle. This allowed people
to engage with me and know more about me and what is to come. This was also
entered in the Moodle blog link forum as my first blog entry.
I commented on numerous blogs to say hello and meet people
in my course. Their blogs were really good and I enjoyed reading them and
finding out other peers perspectives on the course.

Step 2 –
I was given NRW as my company for this assessment. The URL
is provided below. Following this link I was able to go to their website and
find a lot of information on the company as well as their last 5 annual
reports. The last 3 reports were saved into my documents to provide figures to
enter into my company spreadsheet. The financial statements were difficult to
read as they didn’t follow the format I had studied before, so I had to
interpret a lot of data to what I recognised from other statements I had
searched to help me.
I updated my blog to provide information to my viewers about
my company, what they do and how they are performing. NRW is in the mining
industry and has been heavily affected by the downturn of the economy which
meant there was a lot of information about their downturn in shares and
comparison in the firms taking from previous years.
I have commented on other students post as we have both been
finding the same trouble being distance students. The link to the Moodle forum
is provided for my comments on other peoples posts. I have also commented on
Facebook posts regarding other distance students having the same difficulty I
have experience.
To find more information I researched my company through
google and found a website that provided more detail on my companies’ reports
and share figures. Another website that provided me with more insight into the
company was intelligent investor. This provided more information about what the
company does and the questions other people have on the company that has been
answered from the website operator.

After reading numerous blogs and finding out about other
students in the course companies, I have selected my 3 favourite blogs. These
blogs really appealed to me as soon as I opened the blog. The visual details on
the page made me want to scroll down and read about the company. Some of the
blogs had humour involved which was entertaining and the content was also very
informative which made it very interesting. I made a separate blog entry to
post about my three favourite blogs. A link is provided below.
Step 3 –
I have started entering my companies financial reports data
into the company spreadsheet tab 1 (Financial statements) which can be found in
the excel document attached.
I watched Martin’s video on Ass 1 getting started which
helped with the company spreadsheet and what we need to do, also in submitting
my assignment.
Step 4 –
For this step I read chapter 1 and chapter 3 in the study
guide.
